WHO AM I?
(Very Briefly)
My name is Firas Darwish. I am a sophomore at New York
University Abu Dhabi studying Computer Engineering and Applied
Mathematics. While I have an unfathomable interest in these
areas, I value the notion of holistic learning and find it
necessary to include my experience in and fascination with
other fields. This is where I highlight exactly that! Here,
you’ll find a personal collage of my favorite books, movies,
hobbies (and a necessary breath of fresh air from the other
pages of this website).
I am an avid football (soccer) player and I play on the NYUAD
Men’s Soccer Roster. I’ve been playing football casually all
my life and decided to dedicate more time to it during
university as a way of keeping myself more active and
consistent.
I enjoy the study and production of contemporary Arab art. I’m
working on a series of essays highlighting how Arab identity
has always been sheltered and conserved by cultural artifacts
throughout its history and I enjoy attending local art
festivals and pop-ups throughout Abu Dhabi and the United Arab
Emirates. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with an art
collective, Swalif, to have my work showcased at one of the
UAE’s most celebrated art spaces in 2022.
My favorite book is The Stranger by Albert Camus and the movie
that always surfaces in my mind when thinking of the best
films I’ve ever watched is The Grand Budapest Hotel by Wes
Anderson. I am a fan of board and card games; my favorite two
are Catan and Coup.
